Baffin: Day 12 - 6th of walking

We are towards the end of our journey. 25km to go.

Today we wanted to push for another 20 km and get to the last cabin in the park.

But serious winds picked up in the night which forced us to do emergency repairs to our tent at 2am in the morning; and also did not let us much time to sleep.

So, our goal is to get past the serious river crossing of the Schwarzenlich falls and then camp for the night south of Crater Lake.

This will leave us 10 km to complete before the boat pick up.

The weather has changed. The sun has gone. Some serious cold wind is blowing, luckily behind us; but it is full weather gear for the most part of the journey.

The route past Thor is slightly downhill with the moraines omnipresent and lasting a few miles. We pass Windy Lake with gusts at 50km/hour. We meet another hare; this one more friendly and very close by. And we travel below Odin, the father of the gods and tallest mountain in the range.

Finally, is the last moraine of the journey, which makes us go around the whole circumference of Crater Lake. Because it was our last, we made it a good one and it took over an hour to complete.

At the end of the day we have walked 6 full hours and completed 18km. The next camp would have been another 2 hours away.

It is our last night in a tent and after an amazing spell of good weather we finally hit the rain.

Luckily when the rain starts we had just finished to set up camp and our big tent has a vestibule area at the front perfect for cooking dinner under cover.

We are so tired and it’s cold and raining. We are all in bed by 8:00pm and asleep by 08:30pm.
